Besides a newborn babies head, nothing beats the smell of a book so it may be no surprise the Mamma LOVES a bookshop. Especially one as pretty as The Leaf Bookshop in Ashburton.
Owner Laura was a long-time employee at the shop before buying it in 2025 and you can tell this place is run by someone who lives, breathes and loves all things literary.
Besides the impressive collection of books, gifts and homewares, the space just exudes joy and whimsy. From the twinkling festoon lights, to the flying books, book art wall, murals and kids reading nook… The Leaf Bookshop is a place where you are invited to come and stay a while.
Spanning across two levels, The Leaf also hosts lots of book themed community events - think book clubs, author talks, “sip and browse” nights and yes - school holiday workshops.
A shop that works to become part of the community, contributes to the community and engages young readers to foster a love for stories is a special place indeed - and The Leaf Bookshop is all of those things.
