markham reserve playground, ashburton
/This fully fenced playground is an absolute GEM and Mamma reckons its one to pop at the top of your to do list. Markham Reserve Playground in Ashburton delivers old school playground charm with some contemporary touches that make this place a favourite amongst locals.
WIth nods to the native flora and fauna throughout, the playground is joyful, welcoming and FULL of comforting community vibes.
The custodians of Markham Reserve are the three Kookaburas that watch over the shaded sandpit and toddler zone. WIth size appropriate equipment for the littlest ones, this area is mostly under shade sales and perfect for those who are still a little wobbly on their legs or enjoy a bit of relaxed play away from the big kids.
The centrepiece of the playground though is the epic wooden bridge-esque play structure that runs through its center and is the perfect runway for when kids get the ‘zoomies’. With slides, nets and climbing walls that jut out of its extremities, it truly is the heart of the space.
What Mamma loves the most about this playground though is how it seamlessly coexists with the surrounding gum trees that also provide some much appreciated shade. With toilets, BBQs, undercover picnic tables, green space to kick the ball, a basketball court AND skate park at its doorstep, it’s easy to see why this place is always humming with activity on any given day.
