murrup brarn yarra flats billabongs, yering

Parents of little kids realise that an afternoon out of the house doesn’t have to be a massive adventure to still be awesome. This is the great feature of the Murrup Brarn Yarra Flats Billabongs, found in Yering (VERY close to the Yarra Glen Bridge). The trail here connects Melba Highway to the Yarra Glen River Circuit and is an original roadway in and out of Yarra Glen. This wide, paved road is SUPER helpful when you are learning to ride bikes and have a scooter, which of course is useless on a rocky bike trail.
There are some boardwalks that weave through the area and platforms to help spot some local birdlife too. The road is ideal for riding and maybe only took us 20 minutes or half an hour to get to the bridge and back with the family. If you are all on bikes, continue to follow the River Circuit along the Yarra, towards the sporting fields to extend your adventure - although this is a rocky path (we couldn’t manage with the scooter - or with the little legs!)

Mamma's special mention: Yarra Glen has heaps on offer including a great playground and a stunning old fashioned pub!

the nitty gritty

flat asphalted road - parking off Melba Highway (we do a u-turn around the roundabout in Yarra Glen so not to cut across traffic - bench seat half way - dogs on leads welcome (not in billabong area - bridge crossing - walking distance into town
