home by rone exhibition @ chadstone shopping centre, chadstone

As part of Chadstone’s Light to Night Festival, Australian artist Rone is showcasing Home - his first exhibition in three years… and it’s free!

Step inside a shopfront in the heart of the bustling Chadstone Shopping Centre and enter a reconstruction of an Australian weatherboard house imbued with an ambiance that sits in stark contrast to the retail behemoth it lies within. Like Rone’s previous exhibits, Home artfully creates an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and eerie.

The exhibition is a 20 minute walk-through experience which allows audiences to fully immerse themselves in the surroundings at a leisurely pace. Everyone will have lived in, or know someone who had a house that looks exactly like Home. From the check wool blanket on the bed and coloured glass bowls in the cabinet to the burnt orange tea and coffee canisters and old school wood veneer TV… everything here is familiar.

Mamma couldn’t help but walk through the entire space and point out all the things from childhood memories at Nan’s house! And just like Nan’s house, this place has a strict “look but don’t touch” policy. Everything here has a place and a purpose… every speck of dust and every cobweb has been put there intentionally and considered part of the exhibit. Home is open to all ages but if you are worried about little fingers wanting to get amongst it all, it may be one you want to experience without the kids.

Located on the ground level of the centre next to Mecca, Mamma says bookings are encouraged as sessions have been selling out quickly and walk-ups are not guaranteed/subject to availability (especially on weekends).
