lupo's kiln cafe, myrtleford

If you’re looking for a little slice of Italy in Victoria’s High Country, then look no further than the family-run Lupo’s Kiln Cafe.

Once an old tobacco kiln, this family-friendly restaurant in Myrtleford sits alone on the vast Great Alpine Rd (about 20 minutes from Bright) and backs onto the Murray to the mountains rail trail.

Inside, Lupo’s is warm and inviting - with the kiln’s iconic corrugated tin roof and exposed wooden beams reminding visitors of its previous life. But if you’ve got kids, Mamma says you HAVE to grab a table on the vine covered porch that overlooks the restaurant’s very own fenced playground.

The playground is rustic but thoroughly enjoyed by the kids. The main structure is a corrugated tin cubby house reminiscent of the kiln intself, perched upon what remains of a now hollowed out giant tree stump.. With a spiral tunnel slide to zoom down, hidden hidey hole in the stump itself, as well as an old miniature train structure, swings and some digger toys to play with - parents can sip on a glass of wine and watch on as the little ones have the time of their lives.

Now the playground is for the kids but the food is going to make the grown ups squeal with delight. Think rich ragus, the FLUFFIEST gnocchi and focaccia that Mamma is still thinking about - with a kids menu to boot, Lupo’s Kiln Cafe is the perfect family meal out in the High Country.
