Just before the turn off to either Healesville or Yarra Glen sits Coldstream - famous for being one of the coldest places in Melbourne and the shivering man in the creek. But this little town also celebrates all that is fresh and local at Gateway Market. This is your one stop shop for all that is delicious in the Valley. The showroom is full of fresh fruit and veg, chocolates and treats, meat and eggs.
The venue has recently handed over to new owners and the shop, indoor pick-your-own strawberries and herbs, as well as the cafe has had a big make over. This place is pretty sleek, has a great menu for lunch and is a one of a kind for fruit picking in the east.
The glasshouse has rows upon rows of strawberry plants, all vertically planted in towers. The drop watering system allows for so much fruit to grow on these plants and allows the kids to get up nice and close in order to find the really good red ones. Picking here does include using scissors to trim the plants so ideal for the preschoolers and older.
