ca com banh mi bar, richmond

Banh mi shop by day, wine bar by night. How cool is that?! Mamma has heard great things about the banh mi here and just had to try it. Firstly, the rolls are enormous and they are bursting with fillings. Secondly, the protein choices are absolutely unreal. The Lao sausage was flying out the door and the king prawn looked amazing but Mamma stuck to the Vietnamese original, the mixed ham or what is called Cold Cuts here.

The cleaver chopping into some seriously crispy-skinned roast pork meant that was our second choice, it was too hard to resist! Mamma's little one opted for egg, soy sauce and cucumber on a roll. The friendly staff are happy to oblige with opt-in's and out's when ordering. A gluten free banh mi version is available here too - it's all the fillings of a banh mi but instead of on a roll, it's on a bed of rice noodles and served with nuoc mam. It also looked fantastic.

Beautiful desserts include palm sugar cake and pandan chiffon. Vietnamese ice coffee, wine and beer are also on offer.

For seating, inside there are stools along the bar which is a great spot to watch the kitchen in action. A few 2 seater tables are along the wall and some tables in the sun are out front. The back courtyard wasn't open when we visited.

Mamma can't speak highly of this delicious food enough! It reminds us of eating banh mi on the streets of Hoi An, and is a real treasure for us Easties :)
