telegraph station, beechworth

We love little treasures in little towns and we were amazed to see that there still is a working telegraph station in Beechworth. Located in one of the original gold rush era buildings, this telegraph station used to be the hub of the latest in communication technology - morse code.

You can try your hand with the old machines as well as send a telegraph to anyone in world the for $2 - also ensuring this office is one of the busiest stations in the planet.

Also on display is a little model railway, old rotary phones, typewriters and a room where you can listen to the oral histories from members of the Beechworth community.

The station is manned by volunteers, which can impact the opening hours of the building.
