shiprock falls and picnic grounds, hoddles creek

Sometimes when out exploring, it is the little stops along the way that bring the BIGGEST surprises! Shiprock Falls Picnic Ground is a great example of this. Initially you might wish to visit for the falls. The cascading water is very tranquil to listen to, although a little hard to see from the platform. We did spy braver adventurers following a side trail to get closer to the water, but it is very steep and appears to be slippery on the mossy rocks.

However, it is the rock formation at the beginning of the short walking track that we fell in love with! Forget about playgrounds - these kinds of natural climbing challenges will help fire the imagination. We quickly had multiple theories from the kids about who lives here, where the rocks came from and what might be at the top! There was plenty of scrambling and brave cave exploring (more like a rock tunnel) to be had here.

If your kids would like to actually absile this rock, Warburton Adventure Co. can help!

Mamma's special mention: Shiprock Falls is a great side adventure if heading into Kurth Kiln National Regional Park. There are historical sites, picnic and camping grounds, creeks to explore and plenty of bushwalking tracks to explore.
