A kid-friendly outing that’s fun, free and educational? Say no more, Mamma’s there. A Fire Station Display at Nunawading Fire Station is an incredible opportunity to meet the local firefighters, view a fire truck up close and personal and learn about fire safety.

Little ones will love getting a backstage tour of their local fire station. Displays begin with a meet and greet with the friendly neighbourhood firefighters who get to know the kiddos and show them around the station. Tours include a walk through the turnout room where firefighters have less than 90 seconds to gear up once a call comes in - Mamma’s eldest reckoned he could get dressed in less time than that! The next stop is the control room where budding firefighters learn about what happens at a station when an emergency call comes through.

Then it’s out into the hanger to check out the trucks. From a tour of all of the bells and whistles of a real fire truck to an opportunity to climb in the driver’s seat, little ones will be mesmerised seeing these magnificent beasts up close. Afterwards, it’s time for the most exciting point of the visit - manning the fire hose! Mamma’s little ones still talk about getting to hold the hose and point it at a (not real) fire.

Then it’s back to the garage to try on some kid-sized, but very realistic, firefighter’s uniforms. Mamma’s two absolutely loved dressing up as their local heroes and checking out the trucks in their fire-proof jackets. The kiddos are also lucky enough to receive a goody bag on their way home, including a build-it-yourself fire truck, a comic book all about fire safety and stickers - always a winner!

Mamma is so grateful to the wonderful fire fighters at Nunawading Fire Station for taking time out of their busy schedules to make two kiddos’ wildest dreams come true. How lucky are we to have such selfless first responders willing to make time for our little ones!

This activity is really a no-brainer. The kids will come away with a wonderful experience and better knowledge about fire safety! Tours run at 10:00am every second Friday and they’re popular (and for good reason!) so bookings are essential.
