Lakeside Paddleboats @ Emerald Lake, Emerald

It is amazing how something as simple as a paddle boat can be etched into your mind as a core memory of visiting Emerald Lake as a kid. What is even more incredible is the muscle memory - which may feel like torture - that comes back as you board these floating three wheeled bikes. Lakeside Paddleboats are still operating every weekend down on the Lake. It is common place to see the water littered with boats with families attempting to navigate their way around, across and hopefully not into the reeds.

You hire the boats according to time. Our ten minutes (which was enough for this Mamma and her not so helpful 7 year old) set us back $13. You are equipped with life jackets and a quick run through of how to use the boats before you head off. Although we (Mamma) got a full workout and tired legs, we will do it again - in a heartbeat - to see the joy on the little lady’s face again!

Mamma’s special mention: Emerald Lake is another great family destination. There are walking trails, some well loved playgrounds, an outdoor wading pool that opens over the warm summer days, the Puffing Billy Visitors Centre, and of course, Puffing Billy stops right here too.
