eastlink sculpture park

Since the opening of Eastlink in 2008, Mamma has noticed the collection of sculptures scattered along the roadside. From the Hotel, the giant bird eating the worm and the green egg shaped piece (that may have seen better days). But by far our favourite, is the Boy Looking Up. The simple silhouette from artist Matt Cavert, always makes me think of the innocence of childhood and the countless wonderings our little ones have about the world. Mamma also was certain that one day, we would take the family and recreate his pose, gazing up into the never ending blue sky!

To find this dude, you need to venture between High Street Road and the Ferntree Gully Road exits, and starting at the Knox Basketball Stadium is wise, as there is an abundance of parking space. The pathway has mild slopes in this section, plenty of bike traffic, views of the tollway, plus the quarry and dam behind Knox Transfer Station (who knew that was there!) and we stopped at these two pieces along the way.

Along the trail there are 12 pieces within the Eastlink collection and 8 of those are accessible by foot. There are also plenty that we haven’t spotted just yet. Anyone seen Ned Kelly near the High Street Road exit? Click here for full descriptions and maps for the entire sculpture park.

Mamma's special mentions: Mamma loves a good sculpture park, including Heide’s Sculpture Garden or head further down Eastlink into Mamma Knows South territory and explore the McClelland Sculpture Park Gallery.
