cheeky fox trail, kinglake central

Kinglake is a beautiful country town that is so easy to get to and has so many little treasures in the one place. One of the best ways to experience the area - with a delicious reward at the end - is on the Cheeky Fox Trail. The owners of the Cheeky Fox Retreat, Linda and Jason, have designed a wonderful experience for families as an add on for their accomodation packages. Using a guidebook designed for the juniors, jump in the car and explore 3 stunning locations - a family friendly forest walk into the beautiful fern gully, one of our all time favourite playgrounds that has it’s own story to tell, and a spectacular lookout where you might event see the city buildings.

Once you have read through the trail book, discovered new things about the history and treasures that are found in Kinglake (which we discovered that the town was named after Alexander William Kinglake and not a royal body of water), you head back towards the Cheeky Fox Retreat for a private picnic experience.

Using the property’s paddocks as a private picnic area, be treated to a beautiful spread from local caterers My Little Country Kitchen, and sample the region’s beers and wine (beverage packages are an additional add on), all whilst playing games, enjoying the views and chilling out with your family. The juniors can continue to colour in their guide books, visit the sheep or challenge Mamma to one of the many garden games, all while keeping an eye on the sky for the local wedge-tail eagles.

Mamma’s special mention: Kinglake is so easy to get to from the burbs and makes a brilliant family day out. If you are keen to stay longer, the Cheeky Fox Retreat is an ideal base for family groups and can sleep up to ten guests.
