ambulance victoria chas martin oam museum, bayswater
/If you’ve got a “nee-naw” aka ambulance fan in the family then you need to pop this one on your list.
On Mondays and the last Sunday of every month the Ambulance Victoria Chas Martin OAM Museum in Bayswater opens its doors to the public. The volunteer-run museum houses 30 vintage ambulance vehicles, a variety of medical equipment, uniforms and more from as far back as 1887.
The museum gives families the opportunity to step back in time while also seeing how the vehicles and technology have changed over the years. Sit in the ambulances, hop aboard an ambulance motorbike, interact with the equipment and feel the uniforms between your hands - there are so many photo ops here and chances for kids to engage with the space!
The kids will absolutely love riding up front in a modern day ambulance. They’ll be dazzled by the flashing lights, and if they’re anything like Mamma’s two, they’ll gawk at the striking mannequins posed on the stretchers.
Most of the volunteers are retired ambos with plenty of knowledge and a passion for preserving this little slice of history - stop for a chat, have a little history lesson and enjoy a glimpse into Victoria's ambulance history.
Entry to the museum is free but donations are gratefully received and help with their continued operating costs. Donations can be made in the incubator at the front of the museum.
