imagination playground @ beechworth railway precinct, beechworth

The Beechworth railway precinct has had a glow up as part of an exciting $8.5 million project to enhance the Murray to Mountain Rail Trail!

The area has been designed as a civic space to complement the rail trail experience and act as a meeting spot for locals and visitors. With a play space, landscaped tracks, skate park as well BBQs and picnic table (made out of old railway sleepers - how cool is that?!) the Beechworth Railway Precinct has fast become popular social space.

Dubbed “The Imagination Playground” created by local design studio Agency of Sculpture, the space is part playground and part interactive art installation. Using recycled materials, Imagination Playground has been designed to invite imaginative play and to “explore the wild side of the high country”.

There’s a flying fox, nest swing, nature play zones and a climbing structure that pays homage to the local legend of the rock-eating rabbits (be sure to follow the unique folklore tale that plays out across the 12 rustic iron pillars that flank the walking track)

Mamma loves that the space is wide and open enough to be able to see the kids from wherever you sit (though the flying fox was too fun for Mamma to resist).

Make patterns in the sandy gravel, play the floor is lava across the boulder landscape and then once you’re done, head past the picnic pavilions to the Beechworth Skatepark (and enjoy the image of Mamma practically being winched out of the bowl due to a lack of physical prowess).
