eddie barron reserve playground, berwick

Mamma predicts Eddie Barron Reserve in Berwick will quickly be dubbed “the purple park” by locals and one look at it will tell you exactly why.

This playground is like one big obstacle course. With beams to balance on, stepping discs to hop across and rope nets to climb up, this place is the ultimate test for kids’ agility, motor skills and coordination.

The obstacle elements at the playground may be trickier for younger kids to enjoy as Mamma’s three year old struggled to keep up with his big sister. But the playground also offers a space for younger kids with a smaller play structure and slide as well as busy boards, musical instruments and in-ground trampoline.

There’s also a flying fox and unique selection of swings on offer here too, with tandem swings, multiple nest swings and a bench swing Mamma’s kiddos used as a way to regroup after running around.

A traffic school-like bike path runs through the entire playground which also leads to a dedicated pump track, perfect for the bike or scooter… or for running across like a free range chicken as Mamma’s three year old did. If you’re bringing the bike or scooter, you might as well bring a ball as well since the playground also includes a multi purpose court.

There’s a great undercover bbq and picnic area at the centre of the park but that’s where the shade offerings end unfortunately -  this place will get very hot and sunny in summer so be sure to slip slop slap before visiting.
