babaji's kerala kitchen, warburton

Oh we are so so so lucky to have not one, but TWO Babajai’s in the east! The local favourites of Belgrave - Billie and Max - have spread their wings over the top of some mountains and opened their second South Indian restaurant, right on the banks of the Yarra River in Warburton. The crew here know how to host and make everyone welcome!

The food here is exceptional. Traditional flavours from Max’s homeland fill the air at this new Warburton venue. Mamma loves the Kerala Thali Plates that give you a taste of 5 different curries, the classic vegetable samosas and don’t skip the Pani Puri Bombs. The kids have two options on the menu and we love that Babajai’s provide a great opportunity to try new flavours and taste sensations all while staying close to home. These two love the Pikelets Mini dosa lentil piklets and always want more of the Butter Chiken. Oh you also have to order a mango lassi - it goes with everything.

Now the venue itself … STUNNING. The wallpaper, the eclectic collection of trinkets and the views of the river from outside - all adds to the entire experience and we can’t wait to go back. There are great lunch specials too - yes, you can enjoy curry at all times of the day! PLUS there are campfire curries for a bargain price every Friday night around the fire pit - BYO instrument and jam along with the locals.

Mamma's special mention: When in Warburton, you must take a stroll along the Yarra OR head up to the forests. The Rainforest Gallery and The Redwood Forest are both equally magical.
