badger weir picnic area, badger creek

Nestled amongst ancient fern gullies, Mountain Ash trees, and with fresh streams running alongside, you'll find this majestic picnic spot.  Badger Weir is such a fantastic place to relax, explore and breathe in the fresh mountain air.  Mamma and co loved watching the Rosella's play in the rocky stream and discovering the ferny tracks to the weir - all while trying to find our friends Badger, Mole, Ratty and Toad. Did you have to travel up to see the weir? You don't need to -  the picnic spot and surrounding tracks were enough to exercise the legs, heart and imagination.

BUT if you are keen, the Lyirebird Trail (1.1km to the wier) is BEAUTIFUL. It is a little rough (the pram isn’t the best idea - take it from us!) but certainly manageable for the preschoolers. For a smoother ride, head straight up from the toilet block to the weir at the top (also 1.1km and better for a pram). There are toilets, bridges, picnic tables and shelters. We are so pleased to have this magical spot in the east.

Mamma's special mentions: If you are spending time in Healesville there is HEAPS of kid friendly spots to explore - Healesville Sanctuary - of course - but also The Yarra Valley Railway, Railway Station Park and bring the bikes for the Roll Play Bike Track at Queens Park!

the nitty gritty
