wonderscope @ yarra ranges regional museum, lilydale

Welcome to Wonderscope. Local artist and naturalist Clare James has bought the heroes of her garden to the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum and you are all invited to get up nice and close to these creatures great and small! There are slugs, snails, bugs and beetles, as well as fungi and insects climbing the walls. Clare has brought these beautiful ecosystems of the Yarra Ranges and rock pools of Port Phillip Bay up to the surface in a larger than life way - perfect for kids.

Using a whole range of artistic mediums - from drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture - this is a wonderful exhibit that the kids will love, with so much to look at, plus some interactive features. The hero of the room are the larger than life kaleidoscope type contraption, which as you crank the handle changes the patterns and shapes within. You can also use the microscope at the Naturalist Desk or grab a magnifying glass to see the detail on all the amazing sculptures.

Mamma is always a fan of bringing the kids to this pint sized museum and there is always a fully stocked art cart here, where this time around, kids are invited to take inspiration from Clare’s work and create their own oversized mini beast.

Entry to the Museum is free and Wonderscope will be here until early December.

Mamma's special mentions: These school holidays the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum is running a Cyanotype Sun Printing Workshop On September 21, as well as a whole range of other school holiday activities across the Yarra Ranges region.
