schramm's cottage, doncaster east

Mamma loves an adventure that’s easy on the pocket, educational for the kids and close to an amazing park! Schramm’s Cottage in Doncaster East ticks all of these boxes and is a hidden gem for families looking for a weekend adventure.

Stepping foot inside this museum is like taking a step back in time, which Mamma absolutely loves because the history of this area is fascinating. Equipped with a site map, young explorers can lead the way through the grounds which includes an interactive tour of multiple residences, a replica of Victoria’s first electric tram, sheds full of wagons and machinery and a workshop containing conveyerbelts, maps and tools galore.

Mamma’s budding-engineer sons love to talk about the different machines peppered throughout the property and Mamma loves that this visit prompted all sorts of questions like: what did they use to pull the wagons, Mummy? How did the pick the fruit? What were these different machines used for?

Mamma loves it when an adventure sparks her little ones’ inquisitive senses, and a trip to Schramm’s Cottage certainly does that.

Positioned opposite the Victoria Park side of Ruffey Lake Park, an outing here followed by a play across the road is the perfect Sunday afternoon activity.
