Mamma is constantly blown away by the experiences that we get to share as part of the community in Maroondah. ArtSpace at REALM is one such place and they LOVE interactive art pieces which is why they also LOVE inviting the work of Playable Streets. Currently on display is Glen’s latest work - Islands. The space has been totally stripped back and replaced with 3 hot pink islands, complete with palm trees. But it is not until you walk onto these islands that the magic happens and they spring to life. If you walk, or stomp, crawl or even roll, in just the right spot, you will hear different sounds. Once the kids work out that it is THEM that is activating the noises, they will try making patterns and most certainly want you to join in on the fun too. You might even notice the sea rising around you if you hit the sensor hidden underneath. So simple, yet so engaging.

Mamma's special mention: The space is open for all to enjoy and drop in when you like and there will even be workshops and artist meet and greets. See below for what is planned:

  • Thursday 3rd October, 10-12pm & 1-2pm Drop in school holiday sessions to meet the artists.

  • Saturday 12 October, 10.30am to 1pm  Weave Movement Theatre an inclusive performance group will be in the space developing a short performance exploring the sonic and choreographic potential of the project (visitors can watch the workshop through the door).
    1.30pm - a short performance by Weave Movement Theatre - Free - all welcome

  • Thursday 17 October, 11am to 12pm - Eastern Regional Libraries storytime (bookings through Eastern Regional Libraries)

  • Saturday 26 October, 2 to 4pm - Family afternoon - meet the artist

Please note: community groups will be participating in workshops in the space on Friday 25 October. At other times including some of the activities listed above, Islands is there for you to explore during Realm opening hours.
