dandenong creek trail - heathmont loop, heathmont

In this family we love going on an adventure, and the Dandenong Creek Trail is a wonderful place to do just this! The entire trail is HUGE. It runs for 50km from Kilsyth to Carrum, however, this particular section - the Heathmont Loop - is PERFECT for families, especially with bikes.

We park on Wantirna Road and head along the trail, turning around at H. E. Parker Reserve. If you pop over the bridge (look out for the love locks), the path on the southern side is gravel and a little hilly but worth it. It has some beautiful wetlands, nice amounts of shade and even some community treasures that have appeared throughout lockdown. Keep your eyes peeled for a teddy forest, a princess search and bush cubbies!

Once we reach the next bridge at H.E. Parker Reserve, we cross back over to the Wantirna side of the trail and ride on the paved track back to the car. This is the ‘fast’ track and can be pretty busy with cyclists, so keep an ear out for bells and enjoy the ride!

There are lots of places to take a break along the path and access to the creek if you wish to race some leaves down stream.

Mamma's special mention: The east has heaps of places to go for a bike ride with the family. Check out where we have been HERE.
