If you are keen on taking a trip up some windy roads into the dusty bush of Nillumbik, there is a famous bush market that runs EVERY Saturday morning. Think farmers market crossed with tye-die clothing, mixed with feathers and a couple of bush tee-pees and you have St Andrews Community Market. This community institution is a welcoming, no fuss affair with stallholders selling everything from bread, soap, flowers and mushrooms. Have your back worked on at the massage stand and hair braided while you are at it. Share a cup of chai tea and rest on the couch pillows at the top of the hill before filling your baskets with amazingly fresh, local produce.
Mamma's special mention: This bush market is a great place to share with the kids. There are some bush cubbies up on the hill to explore, pony rides and of course a life saving $2 wand of streamers. Best not to wear white and throw the kids in their runners.
