big little buddies

Ever watched ‘Old People’s Homes for Four Year Olds’ and thought, “Gosh, that’s something I’d love to do”? Well, Monique did and as a result her beautiful program Big Little Buddies was born.

Big Little Buddies is a registered charity running intergenerational music programs throughout a number of retirement homes in Melbourne’s East. Each week, residents (big buddies) and pre-schoolers (little buddies) gather to sing songs, read books, learn dances and play instruments all with the view to promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes for young and old.

Each week, Mamma’s little ones delight at playing with colourful scarves, singing their favourite songs - including a repertoire of tunes beloved by the residents, and getting to know more about their big buddies through lots of opportunities for connection and learning. The program is truly enriching for all involved. The big buddies marvel at the little ones who dance, sing and laugh their way through the session, and the little buddies love to hold hands, wave to and chat with their new friends. Mamma also loves to get to know the residents and learn from their worldly wisdom and sage advice.

So if a program which has huge benefits for all buddies, young and old, is something that appeals to you, head to their website and sign up to a session near you!
