the local umbrella, croydon

The Local Umbrella is a sensory friendly cafe and play space that offers something for everyone.  This space has been created based on inclusion for all and they have nailed it. From toys in a contained area in the front, to loads of sensory play with fidgets, headphones to help with noise and soft toys just to name a few.

The cafe has moved from down the road to this new location and it is FANTASTIC. Great tables for the friends to gather around and grab a coffee while the kids explore.

There are so many books, board games, stamps, drawing, toys and gadgets to keep your little ones busy you could be here almost all day. With plenty of tables and chairs you can sit down and relax while your little ones play. The cafe menu is nice and healthy (with a few little treats) and you can even drink your coffee while it is still hot!

In their own words the space is described as somewhere that prioritizes sensory wellbeing and comfort, meeting the needs of a wide range of community members with additional supports for those who need them. Their vibe is big on connection and community and they are so accommodating to everyone. The staff - many who are volunteers - are more than happy to put things away, bring them out, close the front door in case there are a few escape artists, whatever you may need.

Sensory play will also be available here (for additional cost) very soon.
