the independent, gembrook

Mamma is often asked "Where can we go that is kinda special and can have kids come too?" Our latest answer - The Independent in Gembrook.
This Argentinian flavoured eatery is incredible. It once was a mechanics workshop, so the roller doors and high ceilings remain, but now the spacious insides are filled with the most amazing food and service.
We are talking decadent pork belly, homemade tagliatelle with pork and fennel ragù, the most beautiful crispy calamari and sides of smoked maple carrots and pumpkin that will knock your socks off. The dishes are designed to share and the WHOLE family will dig in. Don't stress if you can't decide - take the 'six steps' and the team will feed you! Although the kids can easily eat with you, they can choose from their own menu if they want a plate all to themselves.
Kids will also be entertained in the backyard with their own kitchen set up in the cubby. A dish filled with acorns might rival the chefs inside ... but probably not.
The Independent have now released their private dining room at the rear of the building, able to seat 32 people. If you are considering your next big family get together or maybe even a Christmas party it is worth considering this place.

Mamma's special mention: Gembrook is a beautiful town and ideal for a weekend day trip. Time your trip with a ride on Puffing Billy or the junior version with a Day Out With Thomas, or even the Santa Special. OR simply watch the trains from the station and have a play at the train themed J.A.C Russell Park
