matta, balwyn

We’re headed through the arched window today folks…

Say konnichiwa to Matta, a Melbourne-meets-Japan café tucked into suburban Balwyn. It’s serving up all the vibes, the flavours, and ohhh boy - all the fries.

Matta nails the Melbourne menu mix, with modern Japanese dishes sitting pretty next to your classic brunch comfort picks. So yes, you can have your karaage and eat your brekky burger too. Our crew gave the kids' menu a proper workout (as per usual), and the cheesy toasties and popcorn chicken vanished in record time.

Front cabinet fans, take note: there’s a sweet little line up of tarts, slices, gingerbread men, and smarty cookies ready for those post-lunch-pre-nap negotiations.

Standouts? The Ebi Katsu Sando - crispy prawn perfection in a fluffy hug of a sandwich. And don’t sleep on the Umami French Fries, absolutely addictive. We’re not saying we’d drive back for them alone… but we’re also not not saying that.
