Did you know that Mountain Hwy from Bayswater Rd to Sassafrass was once called One in Twenty Road? Or that 1 in 20 refers to the gradient for cyclists on Mountian Hwy to Sassafrass? Did you also know that there is a cafe in The Basin called 1 in 20 and it’s opposite a park and is kid friendly?
1 in 20 sits in the group of shops in the Basin Triangle and offers indoor and outdoor seating, as well as great food and super friendly vibes.
The menu consists mostly of breakfast/brunch dishes, a few ‘lunch’ items and a window display filled with croissants, toasties,wraps, baguettes and sweets. Mamma can highly recommend the souvlaki bowl while her littles ones enjoyed the bacon and eggs and chicken strips off the kids menu.
Already had your coffee hit for the day? The cafe is licensed so grab yourself a wine with your lunch and enjoy! The cafe supports local businesses with a small range of local gifts and produce, this includes serving gin and rum made in Belgrave and beer brewed in Bayswater.
If you head towards the back of the cafe you will find a few kids toys and some books to keep your little ones entertained while you wait for your food.
The staff here are so lovely and are always fantastic with Mamma’s boys, as well as understanding of the mess they can make!
Another great perk is you can order online through their website and pick up through the takeaway window (drinks and display cabinet items only) Or you can pop in and place your order, and be given a buzzer with a 250m range - amazing when there is a park across the road and the kids aren’t feeling very patient!
