lillydale lake, lilydale

We might not have the beach or the bay … but the east sure has The Lake! Lillydale Lake (yep … it has the old spelling still) is an eastie classic. Whether you have tried catching a fish, been made to run around the track for cross country, or enjoyed a picnic on the lawns, you are probably all familiar with this muddy, but still pretty beautiful, body of water. According to the signage around the place, the man made lake was basically built to stop the township of Lilydale from flooding after a heavy rain. On top of this fundamental purpose, it is a hot spot for exercise and family adventures.

The trail is around 2.5km and nice and flat for bikes. There is off leash dog areas and a huge exercise area for the pooches which is very popular with the furry friends. You’ll find outdoor fitness equipment as well the regional playground complete with water park. The ‘beaches’ are great for the little kids to build sandcastles and play, but the decision to swim in the water is purely personal choice (and not recommended after rain).

Plenty of community groups use the lake as a basis for recreation too. You can join in on stand up paddle boarding classes, time your run with the Parkrun group, sign up to the sailing club or train with the fly fishing club. It is a real community space that we are proud to have in our backyard.

Mamma's special mention: The Lake is a great family hangout and the playground, complete with water play, is awesome. The coffee van also turns up most days - especially on weekends - but also look out for The Whippy Truck and Green Oasis Smoothies.
