haining park farm, don valley

Did you know the Haining Farm Park is open to the public.

This space was once working dairy farm. Now a sanctuary (still in progress) designed to help protect the threaten Lowland Leadbeater’s Possum and Helmeted Honeyeater, and since mid 2021, it has opened the gates to visitors. You and the family are welcome to enjoy a stroll through the park, crossing the bridges over the Don River, check out the old farming spaces and equipment and all while keeping an eye out for local wildlife. The furry ones are pretty shy but we did happen to spot a few eagles soaring high above and hear plenty of croaks in the wetlands.

The trail is a gravel track, fine for prams and wheelchairs, and it is a good length for kids to walk, especially if they are keen to spot the information signs dotted along the trail. The gates are to keep the deer out of the revegetation zones and are easy to open. Tip - take a photo of the map at the entrance to see the pathways.

There are plans in the works for the longer term use of the space. We even spotted a new entrance, a nature playground and picnic areas listed as ‘future features’ on the park map.

Mamma’s special mention: For another beautiful outdoor adventure nearby, head towards Healesville and explore Badger Weir.
