1000 steps - kokoda track memorial walk, ferny creek

If you are keen on getting the heart pumping, getting out in nature and testing your limits … you would have certainly heard of the 1000 steps. This famous 3km walking trail is not for the faint hearted but is a beautiful way to take in the great outdoors with a side of exercise. not suitable for prams (stairs will be your main issue!) and can get rough in part. But there is more to be found at the base of this track.

As part of The Dandenong Ranges National Park, there is a classic wooden playground, extra fitness equipment (if you didn’t get enough cardio!), side trails with creeks and bridges, plus a stunning war memorial. The names of local service men etched in the wall, and further up the hill is an amphitheatre with even more information on the Kokoda Track campaign of WW2. It is a beautiful location for some quiet refection.

Mamma's special mentions: This park is one of the most popular spots to explore within the Dandenong Ranges so parking is tight. Make sure you read the restrictions and ONLY park in parking bays!
