megabeasts @ healesville sanctuary, healesville

Keep your eye out on your trip to Healesville Sanctuary! The MegaBeasts have made themselves at home. This trail is open for a limited time only and it is all about the mega fauna that roamed the northern hemisphere more than 10,000 years ago.

You won’t find any dinosaurs, but you will find some more familiar creatures that have evolved into some of our favourites over thousands of years. Keep your eye out for the giant terror birds that are very much like our emus, the wooly rhino with two horns and even the ferocious saber-toothed tiger!

These huge models are safely off the path, but do move a little and make some noises as you walk through the trail. Mamma’s little kiddos weren’t worried when we saw the big ones - 4 year old was more interested in how the animatronics work. The Mega Keepers are on hand if you have any questions and hold keeper talks on the trail daily at 1:30. For a more behind the scenes experience you can sign up for the Mega Keeper Adventure (additional costs apply).
