Whenever you feel like taking a stroll down memory lane whilst providing a day of family adventure, go no further than the Caribbean Gardens. It has been in operation for fifty years and still has families flooding through the gates. Although Mamma was never driven through the gates as a child (although I desperately wanted to) - I am almost certain you would be seeing the same things. The domed bird aviary- check (no monkeys anymore!). The chairlift- check. Boat cruise- check. The train - check. The wavy umbrella shelter-slash-seating- check. The market, of course- check. Add three separate playgrounds of various levels of excitement, Japanese garden themed mini golf, bungee trampolines, Beach Jeeps and almost a bazillion picnic benches - you have an entire world of fun, right here in Scoresby.
The kids love it too - I have lost count how many times I had to spell 'Caribbean' on Monday morning diary writing at school. There is a canteen style cafe and a spot to play with chalk and a wall to decorate. Rides run on Sundays and during school holidays, but the gardens are ready for exploration on Wednesdays while the market is in full swing.
Mamma's special mention: The first Friday of the month is the Babes to Kids to Maternity market. Perfect for scoring a bargain set of secondhand clothes. Or a handmade bib, pram liner or teething necklace. OR of course you might want to book a stall and clear out those cupboards of outgrown clothes and forgotten toys.
