Autumn is Mamma's favourite time of year. Not just because the leaves are turning red, the days are a little cooler and the rugs come out to snuggle on the couch. BUT it is the BEST time of year as it is CIDER FESTIVAL TIME! No one in the east can do cider better than the Kelly Brothers from Kellybrook Winery. The annual Cider Festival started 30 years ago (pretty good vintage if you ask me) and always happens over the first weekend of May.
Here the team celebrates the end of the apple harvest with full on family event filled with dancing, music, kids entertainment and good old fashioned cider drinking. The weekend is best spent with friends on a picnic rug under the massive oak tree. Pop by the barrel of apples, the food stalls and the barn to grab a jug of cider or apple juice, and enjoy the day with good company. Expect to sample the traditional scrumpy style ciders, as wells as beers from the Riders Brew Company or wine from Kellybrook. There is a tent full of kids fun stuff too - story time, face painting and some magic.
Mamma's special mention: Autumn's weather can be unpredictable, however the festival runs rain, hail or shine. There are plenty of tents and shed to seek shelter if need be but Mamma suggests to pack the gumboots and get out there regardless!
