Kelly Jordan is a fantastic photographer based in the East, she travels all over the place snapping beautiful photos of families. Kelly's specialty is in birth photography - and take it from Mamma she has an incredible gift with capturing some special moments that will always be remembered and treasured. We caught up with her to talk a little about her business.....
What was your inspiration behind starting your business?
I was ready to develop a portrait studio that reflected my own style. I love to create and style a portrait session with full input of my clients with the intention to build creative artwork, not just traditional studio portraiture.
What's exciting you about Kelly Jordan Photography at the Moment?
Birth photography is a relatively new area for us. Due to the on-call nature of birth, it certainly keeps us on our toes and makes scheduling difficult but it’s 100% worth it. Every birth is different and we’re honoured that families entrust us with documenting this life changing moment.
Where do you draw inspiration?
I draw inspiration from lots of different areas depending on who I’m creating for. I tend to lean towards a softer colour palette in nearly all that I create which often gives a vintage feel. Most of my inspiration from this style can come from fashion and photographers from 1930-1960’s, artwork, and dance but I like to mix things up with each family and ensure the style fits them.
Any proud moments you would like to share? Seeing amazing artwork taking pride of place in client’s homes always warms my heart, but I am exceptionally happy now seeing one of my repeat family customers do amazing things in the modelling world after I saw potential in her as a 14 year old.
Any tips on juggling the family and your own business?
Find and rely on great help! We have in-home care for our girls, who are 18 months and 2.5 years, and without our nanny we couldn’t do it. There are some days it takes us a while to get going and beds don’t get made, but we have fun and I think our balance is reflected in our happy girls.
How is 2016 looking for you and your business?
Another exciting year, with lots of new babies on the way and every beautiful stage in children to capture. We’re seeing a much bigger demand for birth photography through our dedicated www.birth.melbourne portal. Birth photography isn’t for everyone, but it’s definitely a huge growth area that we are proud to be at the forefront of in Melbourne.
What one or two words would you use to describe what living in Melbourne’s east means to you?
Family – we moved to the south eastern side of the city when we got married, and have always been close to the CBD. This is where my people are now, we have a village of friends.
What is your favourite thing to do the east?
We love the beach, no matter what time of the year, we will head over to Albert Park, St Kilda, Hampton anywhere we can get down on the sand and get messy with a little water play.
