If these walls could talk.....well they kinda do. Sounding Stories is an art piece like no other because the walls make sound! Put together by Playable Streets, the artists and composers have worked together with local children from different communities from Burma to help create this evolving and magical space. As you explore the space, you are invited to touch the paintings and uncover the sounds that are hidden within the artwork and lines. Watch as your little one looks around to find the source of the noise and then touch the black touchpads integrated into the artworks to make it happen again, and again! The pictures on the walls tell different, but linked stories, sparking the imagination of the visitors who wonder through the door. Mamma's little one was adamant there was treasure in the ground below the pirates and mermaids on the back wall. Check out our video here.
Sounding Stories is running for a short time only (November 20 - December 10). What's even more exciting, the art piece is an 'Arts Incubator'. The work will transform over time so you can visit multiple times during Realm’s opening hours. For an opportunity to meet the team you can head along to a fun session for the under 5s Friday December 8 and a Family afternoon Sunday December 10.
Mamma's special mention: Have you been to REALM before? If not, make sure you head upstairs and see the kids library corner. It is FANTASTIC!
Sounding Stories is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria and by the Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne) funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.
