autumn city staycation

Our beautiful city of Melbourne is stunning. Mamma just loves the city lights and sights plus there are so many things to explore every time we head in! But when you live at least an hour from the city limits and never feeling confident with a hook-turn, we don't frequent as often as I would like. Until this week of course. Bubs and I had our first ever staycation - two nights in a beautiful one bedroom apartment over looking the Yarra. We stayed at Punthill Northbank with a massive thanks to a Discover Your Own Backyard competition late last year! The staff were so lovely and friendly - Bubs may have talked her way into a babycino, a lollipop and and apple all in one breath! The hotel is only a year old and it still feels brand spanking new. Not only was the view and the location just perfect for reaching everything, the breakfast was amazing.

We chose this time of year as there is simply SO MUCH HAPPENING! Firstly it is school holidays and Harbour Town is filled with FREE games and things to do including Melbourne Star and ArtVo. It is Melbourne Food and Wine Festival with events happening everywhere - just a little too fancy for us at the moment. The Comedy Festival is in town - Mamma's absolute favourite time of year. FREE performances at Fed Square is a must do. Plus school holidays lends itself to great drop in ArtPlay sessions at Birrarung Marr. We joined in on a rolling machine workshop, inspired by the brilliant rolling hills that sit beside the art space.

On top of all of this we participated in some great all-year-round, family-friendly and must-do city adventures. Top of the list was Sealife Aquarium where Bubs lost her little mind with excitement at spotting a real life Nemo and Dory. I could have simply sat all afternoon in the giant tank watching the rays and sharks swim over. We met up with Aunty Chook for lunch at Higher Ground which is architecturally stunning and the food was BEYOND delicious. It wasn't exactly kid friendly, however anyone can be won over with a babycino and some fruit toast.  We also made a trip to the State Library, walked throughout the laneways, found the City Library AND made some cool shadow shapes at ACMI.  Biggest thanks to all the people that helped us get off and on the trams with our massive pram! I have a feeling we might be doing this city adventure thing again soon.

Mamma's special mention: Other great city adventures include - Mr Stink at The Arts Centre, Fitzroy Gardens, Ron Barassi Snr Park, Melbourne Museum, Ice Skating, and Polly Woodside
